This is the example for the second assignment I created for Ds106. To find the assignment I created click here
This was the movie that introduced me to the world of super heroes. I thought it was the coolest movie I had seen yet. to be fair I was only in 8th grade back when the movie came released in 2008.
Just like the other assignment I created, I used FotoFlexer as my primary tool. As I have mentioned in the past, it is a free online image editor. First I googled the photo of Tony Stark also known as Iron Man. Once I had that saved i uploaded the image to FotoFlexer. From here it was pretty easy. Click on ‘Decorate’ and select ‘Text’. Now you may type any text and it will embed itself in the image. you may select different font as well as adjust size. When I finished the quote, i dragged the text to the bottom of the photo because O thought it looked better over the black backdrop. Saved the image and then I uploaded it to Flickr.

I’ve made my way around the web long enough to know what a meme is. As an active Reddit user I have come across many meme’s in my life. Especially one’s involving cats. My love for superheros and comic book characters made me think of a popular meme. It’s Spider Man sitting at a desk.
I’ve actually never made a meme until this one. Peter Parker, known by many as Spider Man, is a smart man. He could fight crime and take this course (probably at the same time). I used makeameme.org to create the meme. I would suggest others to do this assignment as well. The difficulty is worth the 2.5 stars.

At the end of the regular season, Johnny Manziel became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, Manning Award, and the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award. I remember watching Manziel play at Texas A&M my freshman and sophomore years at UMW. Ryan Leaf, a former college football star turned NFL bust had something to say about Manziel.
Originally I wanted to make a joke about Matt Damon. Matt Damon has been in many movies where the United States government has had to spend countless money bringing the character back home.
This was an easier assignment. All it needed was text added to the picture. As someone who is not tech savvy this was a breeze. I downloaded the photo of Manziel and then I used MS Paint to add the text.

This was a fun assignment as I love my pets. I have a few Miniature Pinschers and a Himalayan Persian. Daisy is the youngest of all the dogs. This assignment made me realize that getting Adobe Photoshop will make the visual assignments much easier.
I had to refer to google and several articles on cropping in people (or pets) into photos. Most referred me to Photoshop which I don’t own (yet). After trying several free online sites that allow you to edit photos I realized they wouldn’t work. Eventually I tried Microsoft Paint which came with my Windows 10 operating system. I was able to put Daisy into the photo in front of Monroe Hall, but I couldn’t do anything but a square crop. I was hoping Paint would let me ‘free-crop’. What I mean is I wanted the crop to be around just her and not a square.
Baseball bat creates a shadow
Ant point of view
Shot directly into light
The frame of the photo draws you in
Elephant and a puck… Neither related
Is this even a picture?
Went overboard by three minutes
I choose my bedroom as the location of my scavenger hunt. After reading most students were capable of doing the hunt in their dorm, I figured my bedroom would be suffice. Making a photo appear lifelike was difficult. I thought one of my bobble heads would be the closest to portraying something lifelike. I thought it was an easy assignment. It took longer than I thought. i ended up going three minutes over the time limit. I expected it had only been about five minutes. My best post was the heart. it best represents what joy is. My most inventive photo is of the ant view of my Redskins bobble head. It also included a football and my Washington Bullets pennant. Expressing my love for sports.
It was a cloudy day as you can see from the in the background. However, there is light shining down on the face of the blonde male. This was my attempt at timing and lighting. I got the idea from: http://ds106.us/open-course/unit-5-visual-storytelling/#becoming-better-photographers (section from the ds106 Handbook)
It was a partly sunny day and the sun would only come out every 10 minutes or so. It is obviously a formal event with spectators all looking the same way. The male in the blue jacket tries to talk with the blonde male, as he looks on.
